Nothing is more frustrating than stubborn acne that just keeps coming back, no matter how many remedies you try. Unfortunately, some adults are predisposed to having acne-prone skin, which can affect the health of your skin and your overall confidence. If you are suffering from acne-prone skin, we are sharing a few healthy skin tips to help combat your breakouts.

What is Acne-Prone Skin?

There are two basic types of acne-prone skin: non-inflammatory and inflammatory. Non-inflammatory acne comes from clogged pores and usually results in whiteheads or blackheads. Inflammatory acne forms red, painful pustules, nodules, or cysts on the skin. Inflammatory acne tends to be more painful and the area underneath the breakout feels tender to the touch. Inflammatory acne can also be harder to treat.

What Causes Acne?

Some adults are more prone to acne than others for a variety of factors. Generally speaking, when oil or bacteria clog the follicles on your face, your pores become clogged which leads to acne. Adults who produce too much oil are going to be more prone to acne and frequent breakouts. Individuals who do not remove dead skin cells or bacteria from their pores each day are also more likely to experience acne. There are other hormonal factors that cause skin to be more acne-prone, such as pregnancy, menstruation, puberty, or menopause.

How to Prevent Acne

Luckily, there are many steps individuals can take to help prevent breakouts and acne, including:

  • Washing your face daily, once in the morning and once at night
  • Never picking at or popping acne on your face
  • Always showering or washing your face after sweating or exercising
  • Using products that are noncomedogenic, including makeup and hair products
  • Drinking fluids to help stay hydrated
  • Keeping your hands off your face throughout the day, which can spread bacteria
  • Always wearing non-comedogenic sunscreen to protect your skin
  • Using medical-grade skincare that is best for your skin type

Medical-Grade Skincare Products

Discovering the right medical-grade skincare products for your skin type is an empowering moment. When an expert esthetician has the opportunity to examine your skin type and decide on the right products for you, then your healthy skin journey can begin. It’s crucial to meet with a professional before investing in new medical-grade skincare products, as these can become a costly waste if you select the wrong ingredients for your skin. Once you meet with an expert, you can browse the products or treatments that are right for your skin type online at our website here.
