TMJ

What Is TMJ?

tmj 2 Temporomandibular joint dysfunction occurs when the muscles and ligaments around your jaw joints become inflamed or irritated. The condition can be acute or chronic.

What causes TMJ?

Teeth grinding/clenching, stress, and improper bite are just some causes of TMJ.

What are symptoms of TMJ?

Jaw pain, headaches, earache, tired feeling in your face, pain in the neck or shoulders, clicking sounds when opening/closing your mouth, & difficulty opening your mouth wide  are some common symptoms.

Will Botox help my TMJ symptoms?

Botox relaxes the jaw muscles and prevents unconscious jaw movement and teeth grinding. Normal functions like speaking, swallowing, and biting are not affected.

What can I expect during my treatment?

Your provider needs to make sure your medical and dental history is on par for treatment. If it is, small injections are made to the forehead, temple and jaw muscles, depending on your symptoms. There is no downtime, but you may experience mild bruising, redness, soreness at the injection sites. These usually go away in 24-48 hours.
